Data journalism makes its mark in Ireland

Understanding data is becoming an indispensable skill for journalists across the globe. And now, journalists in Ireland will have the opportunity to ensure that they stay, or become, data-savvy.

University College Dublin has just launched Ireland's first data journalism program, adding the area to one of its primary research and teaching areas.

This new Professional Certificate in Data Journalism will enable working journalists, or graduates in journalism and communication degrees, to equip themselves with the data skills needed in today’s newsrooms and in the increasingly competitive data intensive economy.

The course will cover the basics of finding and telling stories in and with, to more complex technical skills like data analytics and coding using R.

Directed by Dr. Bahareh Heravi, the course follows the Global Data Journalism Survey that she conducted earlier this year and will leverage her expertise in data and computational journalism.

The deadline to apply for the Certificate's first round is 31 July 2017.
