Entries for the 2018 Data Journalism Awards are now open

573 projects, coming from over 50 countries, representing the five continents, were submitted to the 2017 Data Journalism Awards last year. For the 2018 competition, the Global Editors Network hopes to reach even further.

Applications are now open and journalists from around the world are invited to submit outstanding works from 2018.

Supported by the Google News Lab and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the competition has over $21,500 in cash prizes to give away across 12 categories.

This year, the competition has a new list of categories including prizes such as 'Best Data Journalism Team' and 'Innovation in Data Journalism'. Each prize is worth $1,801 each, and will be awarded at a ceremony and gala dinner in Lisbon on 31 May 2018 during the GEN Summit 2018.

Submissions are due on 26 March 2018, with the shortlist due to be announced in April 2018.
