A suite of free tools to help you interpret maps.

FreeMapTools is a useful resource that enables users to easily and quickly measure, search and overlay mark-up elements on maps.

The browser-based version offers a wide array of applications, ranging from basic calculations, like extracting elevation, to more creative computations, like determining the total area visible on the horizon at any selected point.

Once you have found relevant data, FreeMapTools also offers the ability to save and share your findings, either by generating a unique link or by creating a CSV file.

Beyond general map interpretation features, FreeMapTools also offers country-specific resources for Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, India, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Each of these resources offer simple point and click interfaces, based off Google Maps, that reveal a variety of features, like postcodes or London Underground stations, within a radius or selected area.

Use FreeMapTools on the go

As of this week, iPhone and iPad users can leverage the FreeMapTools features on their devices. The FreeMapTools App, available on iTunes, allows users to plot a distance radius, the distance between two points, and the total measurement of an enclosed area.

Visit the FreeMapTools online or download it from the Apple App Store.
