Eyeo Festival returns for the 2013 edition, which will take place in Minneapolis, US, on 5-8 June, 2013.

	From the festival's website:

"The way art, interaction, and information interact and overlap is evolving. Access to data and tools continues to enter new realms. What data is — is also changing; It’s a social media feed, it’s a physical sensor, it’s a house plant, a novel, it’s open access to oceans of digitized archives and more and more APIs. What can be done with all this data and what cannot be done? With the Eyeo Festival, artists, designers and coders build and bend technology and give users a glimpse into what’s possible, into what’s next.

The Eyeo Festival brings together the most intriguing and exciting people in these arenas today. It starts with a day of pre-festival workshops and the Code+ed Summit. That same night, the festival kicks off with keynotes and a mixer. Then it’s three days of inspirational talks, demos, and labs and plenty of opportunities to connect with people whose extraordinary creations are pushing the envelope".

The speaker list includes well-known figures in the data visualisation field such as: Ben Fry, Fernanda Viégas, Moritz Stefaner, Martin Wattenberg and others.

For more information on the festival and on the registration procedure, please check the Eyeo 2013 website.

The Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York proposes a two-day workshop dedicated to data journalism. The workshop, titled Visualizing Information: Storytelling with Graphs, Maps and Diagrams, will take place 11-12 June, at the Graduate School of Journalism.

Alberto Cairo will present The Insightful Art, an exploration of the convergence of news infographics, data visualization and storytelling. This workshop begins with describing a conceptual framework that ties together all areas related to the visual display of information. Then, it proceeds to describe how to design efficient storytelling graphical displays from the bottom up, beginning with how to decide what graphic form is more appropriate, what structure to use, and how to combine words with visuals.

Naomi B. Robbins will be teaching the following workshop, Communicating Data Clearly, which describes how to draw clear, concise, accurate graphs that are easier to understand than many of the graphs one sees today. The tutorial emphasizes how to avoid common mistakes that produce confusing or even misleading graphs.

For more information and a detailed schedule, check the workshop’s flyer.

The International Visual Methods Conference: Connecting Diverse Worlds

Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, together with The Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, is organising the third edition of the International Visual Methods Conference on 2-6 September 2013, which will take place at Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand.

	From the event's website:

"The two previous conferences, which took place at the University of Leeds, UK in 2009 and at the Open University, Milton Keynes UK in 2011, demonstrated that visual methods and (audio)visual practices are proliferating. The ubiquity of camera/video capabilities in mobile devices makes visual 'documentation' of events, an any-time, anywhere, activity. Therefore, this year’s conference will focus on visual methods in these mediated environments and the opportunities and challenges they pose for connecting diverse worlds, looking at what happens when visual methods are used in different ways, in different spaces, and the unpredictable effects that these methods can sometimes produce."

Attendees can also profit from pre-conference workshops and masterclasses, as well as exhibitions, tours, installations and screenings. Of interest data journalists, the conference proposes a workshop on the first day, on The Functional Art: Introduction to Information Graphics and Data Visualisation. Additional information about the programme will be published at a later date.

For updates and registration, visit the conference's website.
