The International Journalism Festival is a journalism event annually held in Perugia, Italy. Testival attracts journalists and journalism students, as well as scholars and Media agencies, who get free access to keynotes, workshops, panels and discussions on media in society.

This year's festival will include a special panel supported by the European Journalism Centre, called Coversations with data.

This panel will bring together leading practitioners to look at innovations in data journalism, exploration and storytelling. Panellists include:

  • Gregor Aisch, Datawrapper
  • Caelainn Barr, the Guardian
  • Jonathan Gray, King’s College London (moderator)
  • Sam Leon, Global Witness
  • Simon Rogers, News Lab Google,
  • Lam Thuy Vo, Buzzfeed News

Discussion will look at the following questions:

How can we have conversations with data? Is working with data like a conversation? How is data being used as a “source” in journalism, alongside interviews and other content? How are journalists using data to ask and answer questions for their reportage? What can data add to journalistic storytelling, and for whom? How do different datasets and technologies shape how we tell stories with data?
